Wolfgang "Taffy" von Trips - born On This Day in 1928 - seen here in the curious Porsche 718/2-05. 🧐 During a transitional period for both F1 and F2, some manufacturers used F2's 1960 season to prepare for F1's engine downsize the following year. 📉
 
Porsche gunned for the F2 title with a fleet of 718/2s and one experimental 718/2-05 developed throughout the year; a chameleonic test mule updated at every competitive appearance, von Trips took it to second place on the Nürburgring's Südschleife in almost a formation finish with team-mate Jo Bonnier. 🏆 718/2-05 would eventually become the prototype for Porsche's first F1 car: the 787. 🆕
