I’m a BIG fan of train travel. I love it so much that some of my most treasured travel memories start or end with a train ride in Ireland, Germany, France, up to Montreal from NYC, & more.

So when amtrak offered to host us in BUSINESS CLASS out of LA on the PacificSurfliner to ShareSLO for a stay thehotelslo, I said yes SO fast! And let me tell you that while train service in the USA is generally still behind the level of service of trains in other parts of the world, like Europe and Asia - that’s not shade, that’s just fact - I was still super impressed by Business Class on ‘the Surfliner!!

On the way up in the morning, the scenery of coastal California that’s visible from private lands the train has access to did what it does best: left me speechless. On the way back down, when golden hour rays lit the hills flowing with mustard seed on fire and turned the waves into sparkling drifts: I put my planned work aside and just watched the world go by until it was dark as pitch and there was nothing left to look at but my reflection in the glass.

Business class also included, on the way up, free coffee, water, juice, and pastries from a bakery in San Luis Obispo. On the way down, wine and a snack box with carbs & cheese hit the spot. Soda & water were also available, and a cafe car was open in both directions with more substantial fare at a cost. #TrainTreats

Seats were wide, comfortable, and had plenty of leg room. Outlets right under the windows meant we were never without power to capture video of the scenery. On the way up, I sat in my two-seat configuration, and the train never filled to the degree that I had to give up that 2nd seat. On the way down, I shared a table for four with Suzie and Megan, which was comfortably sized to fit us all and sometimes our colleague Nelson, who visited from The Quiet Car.

To be crystal clear, Amtrak comped our tickets, but this praise-packed caption is all me. If you know me, YOU KNOW how giddy I get about train travel. And Amtrak didn’t disappoint. I’d do this again for a solo trip or couple’s getaway with Danté tomorrow! What questions can I answer in the comments for you? #ShareSLO
