Here’s how to be GREAT at market shopping in Southeast Asia!

All over Asia, you’ll find the best bargains, unique souvenirs, and vintage finds at markets. But they’re often large, busy, and you have to navigate them in blistering temperatures - making shopping more of a pain than a pleasure. I’m going to show you how to find the best bargains with the help of the Copilot app!

I’m *thrilled* to be an ambassador for the microsoftcopilot app: a helpful expert in your pocket for your travels. I’ve been exploring the app and using it to find ways to travel better - which to me means having more authentic experiences, making more core memories, and immersing myself in local activities and culture.

So as a lover of Bangkok’s malls, I decided to switch to markets. They’re cheaper, more sustainable, support local sellers, and offer one-of-a-kind finds.

Here’s how you can become a savvy shopper at markets in SEA:

Check the essentials: Markets often run only on weekends or specific days and close for holidays. Double-check times before you go.

Make a shopping list:I used Copilot to generate a list of everything sold at Chatuchak and chose what I wanted to look for. Accessories are great to pick up at markets. They don’t take up space and add variety to your tiny travel wardrobe. I wanted spices so I could cook yellow curry when I got back to Bali, and I wanted to source both vintage denim and clothes from local Bangkok designers.

Map out your visit: Chatuchak market has 15k stalls,, so having a list of things to buy isn’t enough - you have to know where to find them. You can use copilot to tell you what section your products will be in, so you know exactly where to go to find what you’re looking for.

Learn how to haggle respectfully: At markets, haggling is often expected - but the culture is different in each country, so use Copilot to guide you through local haggling customs. Start at around 50-70% of the cost and work your way up from there.

Want to know what prompts I used to plan my visit? Comment COPILOT and I’ll send them directly to you so you can download the app and use them for your next market trip
