LIONS HEAT UP AT CIF-SS FINALS: The jserra.swimmingdiving teams provided some sweltering results in the pool at the CIF-SS Division 1 Finals on Saturday at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.

The relay team of junior Nolan Baker, senior Noah Ryznar, junior Connor Colman, and senior Taylor Bell produced the highlight moment of the meet in the final race of the day, the 400 Freestyle Relay.

After an opening 44.83 100 split by Baker put the Lions ahead, Ryznar (46.16) and Colman (45.21) maintained the advantage before a 44.55 anchor leg by Bell closed out a title-winning, All-American performance in 3:00.75.

That time eclipsed the previous school record of 3:02.79 set in last year’s Division 1 Finals by Baker, Bell, Colman, and former standout Tas Palcza.

The foursome came within a hundredth of a second from winning a second relay title, producing a school record, All-American runner-up time of 1:22.48 in the 200 Freestyle Relay.

Baker also stamped his name atop the school record books individually.

He touched the wall in second place in the 50 Freestyle in 20.32, which bettered the previous school record of 20.48 set at the 2023 CIF-SS Division 1 Preliminaries by former star Bode Brinkema.

Baker returned to action in the 100 Freestyle, where he broke the school record during Thursday’s preliminaries, when he recorded a time of 44.91.

He was even faster in the finals, touching the wall second in a school record time of 44.29.

Both times earned him All-American status and qualified him for state.

Seniors Ava Withey, Caroline Powell, Elle Treska, and Sydney Willson placed fourth in an All-American consideration and state qualifying time of 3:28.56 in the 400 Freestyle Relay.

Treska, Withey, junior Andrea Bintintan, and sophomore Claire Wilson earned a state berth in the 200 Freestyle Relay (1:37.29).

Willson finished sixth in the 500 Freestyle (in an All-American consideration time of 4:54.10) and 10th in the 200 Freestyle (1:51.16), with both times earning state berths.

Powell (55.58) earned All-American consideration in the 100 Freestyle.
