May is Mental Health Awareness Month 🌟

As tryouts continue, let’s celebrate the strength it takes to care for both body and mind.

In sports, we teach our kids to be tough, resilient, and focused - but it’s just as important to teach them that mental health is part of the game too. Your role as a parent / guardian / fan matters.

Here are some tips from marionhealthpromotion for positive and uplifting things to say to a child after tryouts or a game, no matter the outcome, to boost their confidence and encourage a healthy mindset 👇

“I’m so proud of how hard you worked today!”
Focus on their effort rather than the result—effort is what builds resilience.

“You gave it your all out there!”
Recognize their determination, even if things didn’t go perfectly.

“I loved how you [highlight a specific play or action they did well]!”
Point out something specific to show you noticed their strengths.

“It’s great to see how much you’ve improved!”
Remind them of their progress, no matter how small.

“You showed great sportsmanship today!”
Praise good character, like supporting teammates or being kind to the other team.

“It’s okay to make mistakes; that’s how we learn and grow!”
Encourage them to embrace mistakes as part of the learning process.

“You’re becoming a great teammate!”
Reinforce the value of teamwork and their role in supporting others.

“What’s something you’re proud of today?”
Help them reflect on the positives and let them identify their own accomplishments.

“I love watching you play, you bring so much energy to the game!”
Celebrate their unique qualities and how they contribute to the team’s spirit.

This month, let’s keep cheering each other on - not just for goals scored, but for the courage to grow, connect, and thrive 💚
