The well-worn Murphy Cup was on display at midfield just long enough for a year’s worth of dust to blow off.

Chad Bowen had the silver prize in hand Saturday, May 10, while Yorktown celebrated a win over Lakeland/Panas. Next, it was passed around for traditional postgame snapshots. And when that was over, it was back on the bus for the short ride across town.

It’s been a ritual for the last 15 years.

“This is the one game we look forward to from the beginning of the season,” Bowen said. “There is definitely pressure to win this game, but once we raised our level of play it was game over.”

Jesse DiPaolo knotted the score in the closing minutes of the third, but the Rebels lost traction down the stretch. Frankie Ofrias answered for the Huskers before the quarter was over, sparking a 5-0 closing run.
