“I’ve always admired Ms. Taylor’s kindness along with her dedication to being of service to her students.”

The six 2025 Mr. Canisius finalists all had their photo taken with a faculty member of their choice during their final week of school.

Here is why Hector Gitego ’25 chose English teacher Sherry Taylor:

“Ms. Taylor has truly witnessed me develop throughout my four years at Canisius. Having taught my two older brothers prior, she has made a major influence on me and my family.

“Ms. Taylor is very helpful beyond the classroom. Her vulnerability towards me and our deep conversations makes her easy to talk to and exemplifies how knowledgeable she is. 
 
“Ms. Taylor has made a tremendous impact on me and my family, and I’m grateful for her.”

Ms. Taylor’s thoughts on Gitego, who is from Amherst, attended Catholic Academy of West Buffalo and is headed to Livingstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina:
 
“’A loving heart is the truest wisdom,’ Charles Dickens tells us. I can think of no better aphorism to describe the gifts that Hector Gitego has brought to all of us every day for the past four years.

“A true Man For and With Others, Hector’s loving heart is evident in all he does. He approaches others, fellow students and faculty alike, with empathy far beyond his years.

“It has been an honor and a gift to be Hector’s teacher. I am certain that his loving heart will continue to guide him as he makes beautiful and meaningful contributions to our world.”
