STATE CHAMPIONS (times FIVE!)
 
CHS Rowing earned five state titles, three runner-up finishes and several outstanding performances that qualified boats for national championship regattas at the New York State Scholastic Rowing Championships in Saratoga Springs this past weekend.
 
In the blue-ribbon event, the Varsity Eight, Canisius finished second scholastically and third overall, a finish that qualified the crew for the USRowing Youth National Championships in Sarasota, Florida, in June. 

This is the first time since 2014 that Canisius has qualified a Youth Eight for nationals.
 
Senior captains Liam Feeney ’25 and Isaiah Aljuwani ’25 stroked the crew of Meer Renschler Pandey ’25, Ethan Pirigyi ’26, Trevor Wierzbowski ’25, Brodie Vitko ’27, Oliver Reynolds ’26, Kohler Stewart ’25 and coxswain Noah Rajecki ’25.
 
“We have much more to give,” said CHS coach Jacob Filby ’14. “If we continue to train with purpose, we’ll be in the hunt at the upcoming national regattas.”
 
Immediately after the Varsity Eight, Feeney, Aljuwani, Renschler Pandey and Pirigyi won the Varsity Straight Four.
 
Feeney and Aljuwani, last year’s Youth National Champions in the Pair, won their event by 11 seconds.
 
Winning crews also included the Freshman Four and Novice Four (by nine seconds over St. Joe’s).
 
For the first time since wins in 2012 and 2013, the Second Varsity Eight won the scholastic title and qualified the boat for the Youth National Championships, a first for CHS.
