Meet Constable Phoenix Quick – yes, that is her real name. ⁣

It’s one of the coolest names we’ve heard, and she’s one of our newest⁣ police graduates 🥳 ⁣
⁣
Moving into the Glen Waverley Academy halls from Ballarat, Phoenix’s reason behind joining was to help those ‘more vulnerable than herself’. Meeting like-minded squad mates made her training experience that much easier. ⁣
⁣
“Once I made friends [with the others living-in] it was fun. When we weren’t training or studying, we’d normally be playing board games or going to the movies."⁣
⁣
In the third week of their 31-week training program, our recruits are asked to pen a letter to themselves and open it 27 weeks later, in their final week at the Academy. ⁣
⁣
In her own letter, Phoenix reflects that "So far, everything is going well."⁣
⁣
"We have our first exam in two weeks and I’m honestly nervous about it - I think I might struggle with remembering some of the content. But if you’re reading this, I clearly got through somehow.” ⁣
⁣
Now that she’s had time to reflect on her Academy experience, like many others, Phoenix’s highlight was the firearms training, and the friendships made. ⁣
⁣
Her biggest challenge? Not the exams (like she originally thought). Instead, she admits it was learning to walk past the dessert bar each night after dinner (not an easy feat). ⁣
⁣
With hopes of moving back home to Ballarat someday, Phoenix has instead taken a spot up the road in Mildura, where she looks forward to the challenges country policing presents.
