Surreal setbacks meet real solutions in this new spot for coast_capital, directed by carlynhudson!

A note from Carlyn:
When I got these boards, I had no f-in clue how to pull off some of these vignettes, especially the part when the stairs turn into an escalator (...what). Thanks to the geniuses at CommonGood, production designer zachnoftall, the VFX wizards at artjail, and cinematographer devink_film, we figured out how the hell to pull this off. 

We used a mix of practical effects and compositing/zhuzhing from VFX for our final look. In the grocery store, it was all practical. A guy under the counter was controlling the speed and timing of the rigged conveyor belt based on my shouting instructions at him. In the airport, we used a hydraulic lift system then smoothed out the carpeting in post. For the moving stairs, we used a SUPER high-tech system known as...a stairmaster. That’s right, we bought a stairmaster and had our actor run on it (sorry!!!), then composited her back onto our set build and 3D modeled the escalator-type stairs for the final render. 

Add shooting at a virtual stage to the equation (thank you spstudioscanada!!), and you suddenly have a recipe for many, many zoom meetings between alllllll departments. Final shout out to our CAST! Fancy visual effects mean nothing if you don’t have performers who can pull them off. Thank God most of this was MOS so I didn’t screw up takes with my cackling at the monitor.
