The work of healing is a long game.

Luis Contreras knows this well. He took over The Local Juicery and Kitchen almost six years ago. Since then, he's been serving Chattanooga fresh juices like the Pineapple Refresher, a bright green drink that hosts cucumber, kale and mint in addition to the sweet pineapple.

The Local is a charming, red brick storefront off Main Street with big windows and sunny plants inside. You can order a lunch special on weekdays for $12.99: You pick two from a selection of wraps, salads or toast and then add on a juice. Or you can grab a smoothie bowl or overnight oats to-go.
