#TSRPolitics: Florida Governor #RonDeSantis signed a measure today prohibiting local governments from adding fluoride to their water systems, making it the second state in the country to do so. According to abcnews, DeSantis signed the bill during a public event in Dade City, Florida, over the concerns of dentists and public health advocates.

If you recall, Utah became the first state to pass a similar ban with the passage of HB81, which took effect May 7, 2025. That law prohibits the addition of fluoride to public drinking water systems statewide. However, under Utah law, local jurisdictions still retain the ability to vote on whether to remove naturally occurring fluoride from their water, according to the Utah Department of Environmental Quality.

These policy shifts come as Health and Human Services Secretary #RobertFKennedyJr intensifies his campaign against fluoride. Calling it a “dangerous neurotoxin,” RFK Jr. recently announced a task force to scrutinize its use and said he would instruct the CDC to stop recommending it be added to drinking water.

Here’s the breakdown of Fluoride per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC.) It’s a mineral that has been added to drinking water for generations to strengthen teeth and reduce cavities by replacing minerals lost during normal wear and tear. Also, the addition of low levels of fluoride to drinking water has long been considered one of the most outstanding public health achievements of the last century. Excess fluoride intake has been associated with streaking or spots on teeth. In addition, studies also have traced a link between excess fluoride and brain development.
