In honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, we’re proud to celebrate the voices, talents, and contributions of our AAPI community at Joffrey Ballet School.⁠

Throughout May, we’ll be sharing a series of features across our social media platforms, highlighting past and present faculty, choreographers, and artists through archived photos and videos.⁠

Today we would like to highlight Thang Dao tawndu — our CMCI (Creative Movers Choreographic Initiative) Choreographer for the 2024/2025 Season of the Joffrey Concert Group joffreyconcertgroup⁠

Thang Dao is a freelance choreographer, educator, and coach based in Los Angeles and New York City. A graduate of Hollins University, NYU, Boston Conservatory, and trained at Juilliard, he performed with the Stephen Petronio Company and the Metropolitan Opera. He has created work for Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Ballet Austin, Ailey II, BalletX, Joffrey Concert Group, and others, with performances across the U.S., Europe, and Asia. His awards include a Princess Grace Fellowship, a Special Project Grant, and recognition as a Vilcek finalist.⁠
