🎙️ Sewing Slang with Erin: Bespoke vs. Made-to-Measure 🧵
Not sure what the difference is between made-to-measure and bespoke patterns? Erin’s got you.

✨ Made-to-Measure = modifying an existing pattern to fit your specific measurements.
The design stays the same, but the fit is personalized.
✔️ Great if:
— You love the style as-is
— You want a quicker or more affordable route to a custom fit
— You’re sewing from commercial or indie patterns and just need to adjust bust, waist, length, etc.
🧵 Example: You buy a blazer pattern and lengthen the sleeves, adjust for a full bust, and take in the waist — now it’s made-to-measure!

✨ Bespoke = drafting a pattern from scratch for one specific person.
Every seam, dart, and curve is designed around your body and your preferences.
✔️Great if:
— You have a unique design in mind
— Standard pattern blocks don’t reflect your body’s shape (because let’s be honest — most bodies aren’t “standard”)
— You want the absolute best fit possible for a special occasion or everyday wear

🧵 Example: A custom bridal gown drafted for your exact shape, including posture, shoulder slope, and movement — that’s bespoke.

Both serve different needs: made-to-measure is faster and ideal for tweaking existing patterns, while bespoke is the full deep-dive into custom fitting and design.
