## Caption

As spring blooms, the migration of Miller moths can be seen flying from the plains to the mountains from now until early June. Moths are an important piece in our ecosystem and are heavily understudied. They attract animals that rely on them for food, such as birds and bears, as well as pollinating plants that our usual daytime pollinators can’t get to at night. Being nocturnal, moths rely on the moon and stars for navigation, but can get tripped up by the presence of artificial light. By reducing your use of unnecessary lighting, especially outside, we can help not only moths, but other nocturnal invertebrates to maintain their natural behaviors.
This summer, try to look at Miller moths with a sense of curiosity and wonder, as they work hard to maintain our beautiful outdoors. They are not pests or threats, but rather vital and beautiful creatures that deserve appreciation.
