I could not believe how many people were already out on Broadway at 11am yesterday 😂

One thing many people may not know about me, is that when I visited Nashville for the first time in 2009 I came down to Broadway and instantly felt connected to the heartbeat of the city. I went to a JoDee Messina concert with my bestie at the Wildhorse Saloon and I was just enamored by the music culture. I knew so quickly and surely that I had to live here (I wanted to work in the music industry, and I did a little bit for a while). Back then things were really different downtown. It was before the bachelorette and pedal tavern culture, and people didn’t go to Broadway to (only) drink - they went for the music. Country music singers and songwriters played in the bars until 3am hoping to get their start in the honky-tonks, and so many of them actually did. I loved going to shows at The Ryman and then hitting up The Stage or Tootsie’s or Robert’s Western World afterwards. There’s still many great things about Broadway, don’t get me wrong. Assembly Food Hall may be the greatest idea anyone has ever had (IYKYK) 😂

So even though the skyline has changed dramatically and the reasons for tourists visiting has evolved over the years, it still makes me happy to still see the icons on Lower Broadway still thriving amongst the country music star owned bars (those are cool too, please don’t mishear me LOL) I just want to see the true heart of Music City to stay alive and not only be pedal taverns and bachelorette parties 🎸
