SAY MY NAME THREE TIMES: Senior Sasha Grapko, who plays Beetlejuice, stands behind junior Sami Spear, who plays Lydia Deetz in “Beetlejuice Jr.” in the second of two shows Thursday evening in the Fine Arts Building Theater. 

McCallum’s musical theatre classes performed “Beetlejuice Jr.” with two separate shows, one at 6:30 p.m. and another at 7 p.m. with alternating casts. The show was partially student-directed, with a few upperclassmen acting in the show as well as directing. One of these students was Grapko, who was proud of his final performance, along with the effort that went into choreographing the show. 

“I was a little bit worried going into this performance because I was not as prepared as I usually am because it’s the end of the year, and I couldn’t get a whole lot of rehearsal time, which has been almost entirely in class,” he said, “but I feel like I really went for it, and I succeeded, so I feel extremely good about it. I’m super grateful I was able to choreograph one of the pieces as well, and I enjoyed the process that came along with that.” 

Beetlejuice is a headstrong and eclectic character, which can be hard to represent on stage at times, but Grapko was able to experiment with his acting abilities through the role. 

“I feel like he’s a nice character that you can improvise with and make daring choices on the spot, and I find that really funny and endearing,” he said. 

Grapko is looking forward to his future, and will be able to pursue musical theatre and the arts throughout college in Ohio. 

“I’ll be working to get a bachelor of fine arts degree in musical theatre and a dance minor at Otterbine University this upcoming fall,” he said.
