❓ Must one fail in order to succeed? Debatable. What we do know is that Sweden boasts quite a few triumphs that have grown out of failure. Today we give you three of them:

🍭 In the 1950s, Swedish candy company Ahlgrens tried to make American-style marshmallows, but their result was… chewier, to say the least. They first deemed it a failure, until someone pointed out that the candy actually tasted good. The chewy candy was named 'bilar' – 'cars'! 🏎️ The man behind the candy, Gustav Belinky, is said to have loved Bugatti race cars. These 'failed' marshmallows would become a Swedish classic.

🏰 The Drottningholm Palace Theatre near Stockholm thrived under King Gustav III, a devoted opera lover. After his death in 1792, the theatre fell silent and became a forgotten storage space for over a century. 🏚️ Re-discovered in 1921, it was restored and now stands as the world’s only 18th-century theatre still using its original stage equipment on regular basis. 🎭 A living piece of history and a UNESCO World Heritage Site!

🚢 In 1628, the Vasa Warship took off from Stockholm on its maiden voyage. Commissioned by the king to demonstrate Sweden’s naval power, Vasa was lavishly armed, richly decorated – and unstable. After just 1,300 metres, a strong gust tipped the ship, flooding water through open gunports and causing the Vasa to sink. While it never got to impress anyone in battle, Vasa got its international break as a museum. Salvaged nearly intact in 1961, the shipwreck was inaugurated as the Vasa Museum in 1990 – now a given for Stockholm tourists. 😎
