Sweden is a role model of gender equality in many respects, but that doesn't mean we take equality for granted. We want a future with equal opportunities for everyone, and that takes continuous work. 💪🌍

Today, the day before International Women's Day, we'd like to highlight some of the key areas Sweden is working on:

⚖️ Equal division of power and influence for everyone. This would mean that regardless of gender identity, we all have the same right to be active in shaping the society we live in. This includes all sectors of the country – from all levels of government to academia to business. The government has set clear goals for gender distribution within government administration and state-run companies, which has had an effect.

⚖️ Financial independence. If women's pay was closer to men's, generally speaking, women would have a greater chance of supporting themselves. Efforts aim to, among other things, counteract a gender-segregated labour market, increase the status and wages in female-dominated occupations and reduce sexual harassment and discrimination in the workplace.

⚖️ A fair distribution of unpaid housework and care work. A step towards evening out the financial conditions would be to have a more equal distribution of responsibility for household chores and staying home with sick children, for example. According to the Swedish Gender Equality Agency, several policy changes are needed to reach this goal.
