Statement from the NWSL. 🤝⁣
•⁣
Following the terrifying moment when Angel City FC’s Savy King collapsed on the field during a May 9 match against the Utah Royals, the NWSL has announced it will now abandon future games in the event of life-threatening medical emergencies. 👍⁣
•⁣
King, just 20 years old and a top draft pick this season, was carted off the field after receiving 10 minutes of medical attention. The game continued that night—something the NWSL now says was a mistake. ✖️⁣
•⁣
After successful surgery to address a heart abnormality, King is thankfully recovering. But the incident sparked league-wide concern, with players, fans, and the NWSLPA calling for better protocols. 💪⁣
•⁣
The Players Association said this shift in policy is a “meaningful step forward,” made possible by the strength and unity of the players. 👏⁣
•⁣
As the league reflects and adapts, one message is clear: player safety is not just a talking point—it’s a commitment. 💜 #thegist⁣
