They were driving and saw an Amazon box on the side of a country road. They saw something moving inside and after pulling over, discovered there were 10 puppies laying inside. Huddling together, crying. Hungry. Worried little babies of various ages. This is the reality of rescue. We could talk about how cruel it is to put a box of puppies on the side of a road. We could talk about how no one should abandon their pets. Or we could talk about how to fix it. 15 years ago, I started a dog rescue. it was a dream born of a 24 year old who just wanted to do a little good in this world, who didn't have many life experiences, and who sometimes judged the people who gave up their animals. And then I started meeting these people, from every walk of life. I quickly realized that most people are good. They love their animals fiercely, but sometimes they run out of options. These puppies left in an Amazon box came to The Bond Between. We have a hard time saying no. But how can we stop animals from being left in boxes on the side of roads? How can we stop surrender forms coming through? We can provide free spay/neuter for community members who are below poverty level. We can open our pet food shelf more days per week. We can provide low cost vaccines for animals. We can stop blaming the people and start changing the system. But we cannot do all of this with you. Our community is what we make of it. I hope that you trust us to make the biggest impact, the continue evolving to meet community needs, and to ALWAYS say yes to animals and yes to people.
