The Showcase Showdown was a spectacle of culture unlike anything we’ve ever seen. 🪶✨

Last night at ManitoAhbee’s “Where Champions Meet” Women’s Fancy Shawl vs. Men’s Fancy Bustle special, we witnessed a glimpse into what powwow could become: bigger, bolder, and built for this generation and the next.

From the very first step, the atmosphere was bright, electric, and high-energy — with many dancers debuting brand-new regalia sewn during the winter months. 🪡 But the groundbreaking element began when the categories narrowed down to the Top 5 women and Top 5 men. ⭐️

The remaining dancers were paired into teams of two — one women’s fancy shawl dancer, one men’s fancy dancer — and invited, one by one, to showcase their skills on an octagon-style stage. For the finale, each pair were tapped in-and-out, going head-to-head trading segments in the spotlight. 

Notorious Cree (notoriouscree), who performed in the Top-5, even described the energy as “like WWE Royal Rumble.” 💥🥊

Adding to the magic? The centerstage was illuminated by an interactive LED floor that reacted to the dancers’ lightning-fast footwork. Behind them, champion host drums fueled the electrifying rhythm. 

From start to finish, the Showcase Showdown was unlike anything we’ve experienced. The winning duo walked away with $1,000 each — but everyone left feeling like part of something historic.

We’re not sure if this was the first of its kind across the Powwow Trail… but for Manito Ahbee? It was history. And from what we’ve heard, they’re just getting started. 🔥💃
