Indigenous leadership rises in Canada’s new cabinet. 🧡

In a historic shift for Native representation in Canadian politics, three Indigenous leaders have been named to the federal cabinet under new Prime Minister Mark Carney.

⭐ Additionally, for the first time ever, an Indigenous woman will also lead Canada’s department responsible for Indigenous Services.

Mandy Gull-Masty (Cree from Waswanipi Cree Nation), who previously served as a Grand Chief, becomes Minister of Indigenous Services Canada—the first Indigenous person in history to head the department responsible for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis wellbeing.

Rebecca Chartrand (Anishinaabe, Treaty 4 Territory) takes on dual roles as Minister of State for Arctic Affairs and Minister for the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency.

Buckley Belanger (Métis) has been named Minister of State for Rural Development, representing the northern Saskatchewan riding of Desnethé–Missinippi–Churchill River.

Additionally, Rebecca Alty, former mayor of Yellowknife, has been appointed Minister of Crown–Indigenous Relations — a move applauded by many Indigenous and northern communities.

Thoughts? What are your hopes for this new cabinet? Should the U.S. be taking notes?! 💭⤵️
