Two legends join Dark Winds for a chess match—and Zahn McClarnon helps seal the deal! ♟️👏

Robert Redford, 88, made his first on-screen appearance in six years during the Dark Winds Season 3 premiere, alongside George R.R. Martin, 76. The two longtime executive producers finally made their highly anticipated cameo—playing jail inmates in a lighthearted chess match.

Director Chris Eyre (chris.eyre) revealed that Redford gave him full creative control on set, saying, “Whatever Chris wants.” A key figure in independent filmmaking, Redford has mentored directors like Eyre since the Sundance Labs era.

Their scene, which lasted just a few minutes, was filmed over four hours on a closed set at Redford’s request. Eyre described the experience as “fun, joyful, and unforgettable.”

Robert Redford, a Hollywood icon, is known for classics like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and All the President’s Men. He also co-founded the Sundance Film Festival, a key platform for independent and Indigenous filmmakers. George R.R. Martin, meanwhile, is the author behind Game of Thrones and has been a major supporter of Dark Winds, helping bring the series to life as an executive producer. 🎬🍿
