Let’s catch up with 2023 LSU Dance alumna Kaitlyn Odell!
Read below to learn how the LSU Dance program has impacted Kaitlyn’s professional development as she navigates combining dance with physical therapy!

“Hi! My name is Kaitlyn Odell. I graduated from LSU-BR in December ‘23 with a dual major in Biological Engineering and Kinesiology with a minor in Dance. Dance has always been a huge part of my life. From dancing once a week at the age of three to training daily, demonstrating, teaching, and competing through high school, I knew I had to find a way to continue my training in college and beyond. The LSU program made this possible! I was able to conquer the rigorous course load of BE and KIN and still have the opportunity to move my body and explore movement completely free of judgement.
Today, I am a first year Doctor of Physical Therapy student at LSU Health Science Center in New Orleans. And yes, I am still dancing, teaching, and performing A LOT!! My ultimate goal once I graduate PT school is to use dance as a form of physical therapy for children (any patient really) with special needs. With the help of Susan Perlis, I developed a connection with the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge working with patients with Parkinson’s Disease and teaching movement. Now, I work with various studios and the Arts Council where I have developed a dance program and curriculum designed for children and young adults with special needs. I truly believe dance is so much more than just a hobby. It’s a way to express the feelings and emotions we can’t quite put into words. Watching the smiles on the dancers’ and parents’ faces each week is priceless. Under Claudio Ribeiro, my first cohort of young dancers were invited to perform at the 2024 Spring Showcase. They stole the show, in my opinion! Being able to share such a powerful message on a college stage had a huge impact on the development of the program and so many more audience members. Without the LSU Dance Program, I wouldn’t be where I am today!”
