Our team was honored to be among the team presented with a 2025 City of Chicago Landmark Award for Preservation Excellence in restoration. This is for the residential project the_henry_house_restoration we worked on alongside designenmasse, centeredbydesign , and pavel_nawrocki. We love all of our home remodeling projects, but getting to work with homeowners, designers, and craftspeople who are preserving the Windy City’s history is what we’re all about. 

Here’s a look at the work we did on the exterior facade of this 1880’s Lincoln Park Row House. 

1. The original facade of Joliet and Gray limestone had worn away over time, so details like the window keystones and roofline cornices needed attention.
2. During the exterior restoration, three stories of scaffolding let us access every corner and crevice of the building.
3. The restored exterior has hand-carved keystones to match the original design, new Marvin windows, and a fresh coat of paint on the custom exterior millwork. 
4. There was only the original keystone left standing when the project began. The team at Carving in Stone sculpted every subsequent keystone by hand to match this design thought up in the nineteenth century.
5. The keystone design was carved by hand in-situ.
6. Water damage and aging wood had damaged some materials, so we got to work replacing and damage framing, drywall and insulation. We want this historic home restoration to last for at least another 140 years, so we took waterproofing this home seriously.
7. So many elements of this exterior were made or carved by hand to match the original design as closely as possible.
8. This project has truly been a team effort, and we can’t wait to share more about it in the coming weeks.
