Misunderstood.

This was really hard for me to make, but it needed to be done and that is the word I choose to describe my struggle with my recent ADHD diagnosis. I’ve struggled for a long time to disclose this with anyone, but I knew I needed and wanted to share it with the world.

I have ADHD. I felt like I knew this way before in my childhood, where I was the loudest, most energetic, and most “far-removed” from my peers, but I’ve always felt like an outsider, who didn’t fit in with the “rules” of society. Even during school, I would take 3 times as much with studying to get the same results as my peers. I knew something was off in my life, so I decided to get tested in September 2021.

From that, I was diagnosed with ADHD Combined.

Most people think that ADHD is just a disorder of “too energetic, and not being able to concentrate”, but it goes far beyond that. Impulsivity, mood swings, are just some of the things that aren’t spoken a lot with ADHD. We see the world in a completely different way.

I was super uncomfortable talking out about it when I was diagnosed because I felt like I wasn’t going to be accepted and others would see me differently, but I knew I had to made the leap of faith with Canada’s Ultimate Challenge. I knew this was one of the few chances I had a platform to talk about my mental health. During casting and filming, I challenged myself to speak out about my ADHD so that people would see a different side of me, and show people how I see the world in a different lens. While I was there, I learned to embrace my condition rather than hide it.

I’ve went through most of my life feeling like an outsider because I truly felt like I didn’t fit in with society. The diagnosis gave me more clarity to why I felt the way I did and I’m so glad that
@canadasultimatechallenge and @representasianproject really gave me the opportunity to speak out about this, and is one of the few places where I truly felt like I belonged. I encourage all of you seeing this post to learn more about what ADHD means, and destigmatize it together ❤️
