Terry Sanford's great-grandson Gus Zignego and family unveiled the historical marker for the former North Carolina Governor, U.S. Senator and Duke University President.

As governor of North Carolina, Sanford helped double funding for public schools and stood up for desegregation. As president of Duke, he helped the university grow into a world-class research institution and started what is now the Sanford School of Public Policy.
