From playing at a mid-major to becoming a WNBA veteran, this is Natasha Cloud's basketball story: “Growing up in a middle class family, my dad’s working two jobs to keep a roof over our head and food on the table, I knew basketball was my way out. Understanding that I could go and get a college degree that I wouldn’t be able to afford otherwise. I was a mid-major kid, so I thought the WNBA wasn’t even on my radar. I thought how can I put myself in the best position moving forward through this game that God has given me — this beautiful, beautiful game. Then, I go to St. Joe’s and start going crazy — we played Maryland the year after I transferred and we beat them, a top-five team in the country, played Syracuse and lost by one.... We were playing all of these top teams in the country, and in that, I was like, ‘Hold on, I can do this!’ I’m guarding Jewell, I’m guarding AT, I’m guarding Slim.... I’m guarding all these players that are top prospects in the draft next season. Within that, the Mystics started to come watch me that next season and that was so exciting for me. A mid-major kid, an underdog, someone that’s always been told ‘You’re good, but not good enough.’ That was really special for me.” (Listen to her #SometimesIHoop episode, link in bio) • 📸: @brian_babs_babineau, @_evanyu, @mstobe
