What often comes to mind when people think ‘police officer’ are shows like Highway Patrol, RBT and (if you’re old enough) Blue Heelers. We get it. They are great shows. But as Detective Inspector Tim Cron proves, a career in policing is more than what these shows air. A career at Victoria police is one of opportunity with a smorgasbord of roles to choose from – so long as you put in the work, of course.⁣

Tim’s early career was founded in the inner suburbs of Victoria, where he climbed the ranks, joined several task forces and instructed law at the Academy. For the past five years, he’s found himself at North West Metro Headquarters, Bendigo, and as a Detective Inspector overseeing 245 Detectives and Crime Scene Officers (huge).⁣

Despite 39 years of experience, Tim still finds diversity in the everyday. He recently jumped back on the van with his son, First Constable Josh Cron (pictured right), for a shift. “It was a very proud day when he graduated but even more so when we got to work together. It was also great to be able to work a van shift again after a fair few years to see how the members on the frontline perform. They are as professional and hard-working as ever. I am very proud of the work they do.”⁣
