Ever wonder why some people yank the cable like Tarzan during lat pulldowns (or other exercises)?
Is it effective? Should you be doing it? Or... are you guilty of it yourself?

🔍Let’s break it down:
Most of the time, it’s ego lifting. The weight is simply too heavy for their current strength level—putting them on the fast track to injury. Others are mimicking “cheat reps” they’ve seen someone jacked doing... but let’s be real: a lot of those physiques today owe more to PEDs than perfect programming.

❓️So what are cheat reps?
The concept of allowed form breaking used to squeeze out an extra 1–2 reps under fatigue to increase metabolic stress. Theoretically, they’re a hypertrophy tool—but research shows they’re not as effective (if at all) as other proven methods.

🚫The real issue?
People take this idea and turn entire sets into sloppy “cheat reps.” That’s not advanced training—that’s just bad form and waste of time.
Should you do that? Absolutely not. If you’re doing it now? Lower the weight, leave your ego at the door, and build strength the smart way.

✅ What to do instead:
– Myo Reps
– Drop Sets
– Bottom Partials
– Increased Time Under Tension (TUT)
– Cluster Sets
– And more. The list of proven advanced methods is long.

In this video, I’m using one of my favorites: added bottom quarter reps (1 full + 1/4 rep each time). These are great for breaking through sticking points, rapid strength gains, and increasing metabolic overload.

📢And here’s a PSA:
Just because someone in the gym is doing something unusual doesn’t mean it’s effective—or even correct.

Also advanced methods like wave loading, giant sets, contrast sets, etc. have specific applications. If you’re not sure what you’re seeing, just ask.

Find a credible gym bro/sis who can explain it—or go to a trainer. Most will gladly break it down without trying to sell you anything.

Train smart. Make your reps count.
