Ahead of the CIF Track and Field Championships at Veterans Memorial Stadium this weekend, controversy is growing over the participation of transgender athlete AB Hernandez.

“Today, I call on CIF to do the right thing. Updates one and two were not enough, but the third time can be the charm,” said Clovis Mayor Pro Tem Diane Pearce.

She added, “CIF still has a chance to make it right by removing biological males from girls’ sports.”

The call to action comes after the CIF announced its decision to allow a transgender athlete to compete in three women's track and field events, despite an executive order by President Donald Trump, which aimed to keep men out of women's sports.

The CIF's decision is seen as a violation of federal orders aimed at protecting women in sports and could potentially threaten federal funding for California.
