State and local leaders in Fresno County, led by Clovis Mayor Pro Tem Diane Pearce, will hold a news conference on Thursday ahead of this weekend's California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Track and Field Championship at Buchanan High School.

The leaders are calling on the CIF to protect girls' sports and ensure fairness for female competitors.

California Assemblyman David Tangipa said, "We can't even get the basics right and the fundamental understanding that boys are boys and girls are girls and our young women deserve protected spaces just like we settled in 1972."
