A transgender athlete set to compete in a women's event at the California Interscholastic Federation Track and Field Championship in Clovis this weekend has drawn national attention -- including from President Donald Trump. 

Trump has threatened to pull federal funding from the state if the athlete in question is allowed to compete. 

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has spoke about the issue of trans athletes in his recent podcast. The issue could pose a potential legal battle in California. 

FOX26 spoke with our Sinclair sister station in Portland, Maine, to get a glimpse of how a similar situation is playing out there in the courts under Trump.
