Our panelist of experts in the field of fisheries and human rights will discuss current issues and how we can transition our world’s fisheries into a fair, just and sustainable industry that continue to provide vital sustenance while prioritising the limits of the ocean and all of its marine life. ⁣

The issues of human rights abuses and environmental destruction are two sides of a coin and must be addressed in tandem, as UN Special Rapporteur, Astrid Puentes Riaño recently stated that “human rights must be at the heart of ocean governance”.⁣
⁣
This discussion aims to highlight the urgent need for collective efforts towards global ocean protection across regions, a systemic change in industrial fishing, and to support an ocean treaty that eventually benefits sustainable fisheries and marine biodiversity conservation.⁣
