#BlackMusicMonthSpotlight: Dr. Brandon Waddles ’10

Proud Morehouse Man and Detroit native, Dr. Brandon Waddles ’10 is a leading voice in the preservation and evolution of Black sacred music. A gifted composer, arranger, and scholar, his work has been performed by renowned ensembles worldwide, including the London Symphony Orchestra, Harvard Glee Club, and The King’s Singers.

At Morehouse College, Brandon laid the foundation for a life deeply rooted in musical excellence and cultural stewardship. Today, he continues that mission through original compositions, his widely respected transcriptions of Black gospel music, and his role as a contributing editor of One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism—a hymnal celebrating the rich legacy of the Black church.

He also brings his artistry to the national stage as Music Director for Grammy-winning artist Ledisi, collaborating on projects from Carnegie Hall to the White House, and with prestigious orchestras including the LA Philharmonic and Philadelphia Orchestra.

Currently, Dr. Waddles serves as National Music Director for NAACP ACT-SO and is co-editor of the Rock My Soul Choral Series with Gentry Publications—continuing to mentor and inspire the next generation of musicians.
