Boston Marathon Race Recap, Part 11:

Shortly after I crested Heartbreak Hill, I saw my coach, joebosshard, come into focus.

🗯️I know you’re dying right now, Emma, but so is everyone else! Keep fighting! You can still catch people!

Now, I didn’t know if Joe was telling me the truth or not, but I didn’t care. It’s go time.

💭Only 5 miles left, Emma. Make em count!
💭Fight! Fight! Fight!

I hit 5:31 at mile 22 and started to see some people up ahead. Slowly but surely I was able to reel them in. I half expected them to have a response and try to fight me off, but Joe was right, they were dying.

💭Ok Emma, you reached these runners but there’s still more up ahead. Keep pressing.

I had no idea what pace I was going but with each passing of another competitor, I felt more and more alive.

💭There’s that competitive edge I was looking for.
