This one deserves a victory post. This was never part of the plan. It was the kind of problem that sneaks up on you when you think you’re in the clear. The kind that tests whether you really mean to see this through.

For four months, l’ve been grinding, pushing through exhaustion, getting this boat ready for the crossing. I was beginning to see the light, convinced the hardest days were behind me. It felt like a victory lap. And then I discovered the hole in my deck left behind from my old windlass. Too big for the new one. In that moment, I knew I was screwed. That night, I stayed awake, convinced the universe was conspiring to keep me from crossing the Pacific in May.

Truthfully, this entire journey has been an uphill battle. But I woke up the next morning with a fire in me that refused to go out. That fire was tested. This project took 12 days. 12-hour days of relentless persistence. Another step into a world I knew nothing about. I didn’t even know what raw fiberglass looked like before this. And yet, every day, I showed up.

I fought the wind. I fought the rain. I fought my own doubt. I strung together a makeshift tarp to keep the work dry, and somehow, against all odds, it held. Through 40 to 50 knot gusts that had me lying awake, waiting for the moment it would give way and I would have to start from scratch. But it didn’t. And neither did I.

There were moments I’m not proud of. Moments when the fatigue and frustration got the best of me. But I did it.
To some, this may not seem like much. But to me, it was everything. Because I didn’t think it was possible. And yet, I did it.

This entire journey, l’ve been proving myself wrong. A year ago, I stepped onto this boat, overwhelmed by how complicated everything seemed. I thought I had made the biggest mistake of my life. But standing here now, looking back at everything l’ve done, I can say something l’ve never truly believed before.

I believe in myself.

And just in time. Because in 35 days, I am crossing the Pacific Ocean 🏴‍☠️
