Travelling during monsoon season? We’ve done it a lot and here’s how to make the most of rainy days!🫶🏻

So why travel during rainy season? The most common reasons in my DMs are: 

• to save money (it’s a *lot cheaper*)
• you’re a teacher (European summer is rainy season in much of Asia) 
• you forgot to check the weather before you booked the trip 🤫

Either way, sometimes travelling during the rainy season is the only, or best, choice. So here’s what to do to make the most of it:
• Look out for micro climates: pockets of a country that remain lovely even when the rest of the country is in a downpour. Most of Thailand is rainy in July, but the gulf islands are lush. (My weather reel has all of these)
• Book villas rather than double rooms: you want a kitchen / living area, in-room dining. These are much cheaper during rainy season and when the rains hit, you don’t have to leave. Stay inside and watch a movie, read a book and chill out. Pickup groceries when you arrive. 
• Find accommodation with a spa or close to one. Spending the day getting treatments done is one of the joys of rainy season
• Likewise look for escape rooms, indoor markets and activities you can do. Make a list of museums, galleries, indoor sports or activities you want to try and save them for your rainy days. 
• Book flexible hotels in hard to reach places: boats will be the first things to get cancelled, so make sure any island bookings are flexible so you don’t lose out if the weather takes a turn. If they won’t refund you, ask them to hold your booking - they do it for up to a year. You can sell it on a hotel booking website like roomer_travel 
• Bring a waterproof backpack cover. Even if you’re not in the rain, you bags will often be soaked when they’re taken off the plane.
