Want to go to a Thai island that has gorgeous beaches, hidden caves, snorkelling, hiking, boat trips and is not on the tourist trails? Add Koh Mook / Muk to your itinerary!

Koh Mook is a small, pretty island around an hour south of Koh Lanta. You can visit on a day trip from Lanta, but I *really* recommend staying overnight. It’s just such a gem of a place!! We just left and I already can’t wait to go back.

This small island has a little bit of everything I need: plenty to do during the day around the island (kayaking drives, hikes, boat trips), really great food at local restaurants, a quiet but nice nightlife scene (no busy clubs, but low key beach bars with good cocktails), and the prices are super cheap!

There’s a few laundromats, an ATM, bikes are cheap and easy to hire but there are a lot of tuk tuks around the island so you won’t struggle for transport if you don’t want to drive. It’s 50thb per person for most rides. Long tails are about 1,500-2,000 per boat.

How to get here:

You can book a speedboat or longtail boat from Phuket, koh phi phi, Koh lanta, or Krabi. Book on 12go_com or in a local tour office. It’s a fairly easy crossing, but in shoulder season can get choppy.

• take a private longtail to Koh Kradan
• go see the emerald cave
• hike, kayak or hire a boat to take you to Sabai Beach . have a cocktail at Ku bar
• try the laab and yellow curry at Happy restaurant

Why go:

Come here if you want a low key island, far from touristy Phuket and Samui. If you’re not after busy nightlife but want something to do in the evening. If you like being active during the day and love being in the sea.
