What’s the social media famous Tonnarello actually like? 👀 Let’s find out! 

The biggest green flag for this restaurant is its 4.7/5 review score out of an impressive 72k reviews.

But the biggest red flag is… 72k reviews.

In a city full of social media famous spots that aren’t quite worth the hype, I really wanted to find out whether Tonarella is as good as I’ve heard! 

Let’s get into it!

Wait Times: There was no wait to eat outside, ad a 10 minute wait to eat inside. That was at 2 pm on a Thursday.

Service: Every person who served us at this restaurant was warm and friendly. They were great with Tim’s allergies, and when we ordered in Italian the waitress was super encouraging and spoke back in Italian instead of switching to English. (I really appreciate this as someone who is learning!)

Food: I ordered the Cacio e Pepe. The portion size was huge, I couldn’t finish it at all. And it tasted fine! Tim ordered the Amitriciana and he ate every single bite. He said it was incredible and he would definitely recommend. We shared a salad which was simple and nice.

Value for money: I feel like it was good value for what you got!

Tourist factor: The menu was in English, a lot of people there had tripods next to the tables and were videoing and taking pictures of their food (just like us) so it definitely felt like an Instagram restaurant. But the warm service and relaxed atmosphere there set it apart from other social media famous restaurants we’ve been to. The food is good, and plentiful. But it didn’t set my pallet on fire! I wouldn’t count it among the best food I’ve had in Rome, but if you were thinking of going here and you’re worried that it’s just a tourist trap with no value – it’s definitely not that.
