🌴 Mini Ao Nang Travel Guide! 🌴

Save this post if you’re planning a trip to Thailand 🫶🏻

Ao Nang is a tourist town close to Krabi airport and a quick boat ride from many famous Thai islands and beaches. It’s a bit brash, with a chaotic nightlight scene and lots of busy markets and bars - but we still go back often as it’s a gateway town to a lot of excellent sights in Southern Thailand.

During your first hours on the main Ao Nang strip, travellers with a more low-key travel style might think they’ve ended up in the wrong place 😝 it’s a bit loud, with lots of people, music pumping from restaurants and bars on the main strip. But hop on a boat or bike and you’ll see why it worth coming here. Swipe through to see my favorite sights!

If you want to see everything, I recommend maybe 4/5 days in the town. But if you want to move fast you can do a lot in 2 nights. Accommodation is incredibly reasonably priced, as are drinks and food in many local bars. There are a huge number of tours you can join too, so you don’t need to overly plan your trip. You can just show up and book things on the day.

To get here, take a flight to Krabi and then a 40 minute private taxi (400baht) or shared bus (90baht) to your hotel.

If you’re coming from Koh phi phi / koh lanta or nearby islands you can usually get a boat directly to Nopparat Thara beach and drive the 10 mins into Ao Nang. (From Koh lanta we paid 550 baht per person for boat tickets with a transfer to and from our hotels either side)

If you want to be in the thick of things and take tours, go out each night, shop, dine out and meet people, then staying on the south end of the beach (closest to Railay) is your best bet. It’s a super touristy here, and convenient for sightseeing.

If you’re the kind of traveller who wants to dip in and out of the busy things, but stay mostly in peace and quiet, then move further north to Nopparat Thara and beyond. If you rent bikes you can get around easily. We tend to mostly stay just at the edge of the town, back from the beach.

What do you think? Would you go??
