Would you trust a Koh Samui guide written by someone who doesn’t like Koh Samui? 🤔 Well here it is!

If you’re planning a trip to Samui, the most important thing to know is what to expect. Koh Samui is more of a honeymoon and holiday maker island than an undeveloped beach bar island like Koh Jum or Koh Mak. On the island you’ll find an abundance of accommodation options, a lot of nightlife, lots of western restaurants and home comforts, and a much more international vibe. It’s popular with families, newlyweds, and those looking for a more high end holiday. 

So if that sounds up your street, here are some tips for the island:
• Avoid coming in October / November as it gets super rainy 
• Feb & March are statistically the warmest months 
• The island is popular for Christmas but December weather can be hit and miss 
• The weather here will be much better than the west coast islands during European summer months. So you can visit here from June - August 
• Samui airport is a private airport, so flights can get expensive for budget travellers. There is an airport in a town called Surat Thanj just off the mainland of Samui which often offers much cheaper flights to the same destinations. Check out flights to and from this airport if you’re on a budget 
• Chaweng and Lamai are the busier touristy beaches, so if you want to be near the action then stay there. We thought they were actually the prettiest. 
• If you want to be far from the action consider the south or west coast of the island or Mae Nam to be close but not central to the action 

Here are some places to check out on the island:

🫶🏻 @cocoonviewpoint (a more low key version of Jungle Club)
🫶🏻 @longdtai (get a boat to a neighbouring small island for dinner)
🫶🏻 Sunsets at Lipa Noi beach are unmatched 
🫶🏻 Wat Plai Lam (the temple in the video, worth a visit!)
🫶🏻 Thongson beach is quiet and pretty
