Planning a trip to India and worried about what to pack? Here’s a few tips, after my third trip to the country ✈️

Unless you’re in a beach area like Goa, you’ll need to dress more modestly than you would in most other southeast Asian countries.

Long, floaty dresses are my go-to. They’re light enough for the heat but modest enough not to draw any attention. They’re also wonderful for a pretty photo 🫶🏻 Cute dresses that cover your shoulders are really helpful for temples.

Tank tops/vests and a long floaty skirt or light trousers was my preferred choice for travel days. I packed one white, one black and 2/3 coloured tanks and wore them with a mix of skirts & trousers.

If you’re travelling the length of the country, pack according the weather as temperatures can vary widely from north to south. I like to start in the coldest point, and finish in the warmest point. This means I can shed layers as I go along (you can donate clothes that you don’t need any longer!)

Don’t stress too much about shoes, you’ll need one pair of comfy flats and a pair of trainers. you’re probably not gonna wear heels.

You can find beautiful coverups, shawls and temple friendly dresses when you get there. So don’t stress too much about packing clothing for religious sites and temples. You’ll find better options there.

Pushkar was the best town for shopping 🫶🏻 (but the one I liked the least overall 🤔)

It’s very cheap to get your laundry done, so you don’t need to pack a lot. You can wash and re-wear things super regularly. It was about €4 to get my laundry done in budget hotels.

You can rent a sari for the Taj Mahal! However bear in mind that this is a traditional and very important garment, so make sure you’re dressed in it by someone who knows how to pin it correctly. Alterations and modernisation of a sari aren’t recommended.
