I absolutely loveeeee so much about this project, but I had a completely different vision for this video.

as you can see, I spent two weeks painting this mirror and you’re seeing it in 15 seconds. but even this short clip nearly didn’t happen. after hyping myself up, clearing out my camera roll, obsessing over iPhone camera settings, and meticulously marking my shooting area so I could make a match cut, my vision fell apart starting with the wind just straight up blowing away my markers and ending with me just straight up losing footage of me peeling off the stencils.

not gonna lie, I definitely threw a tantrum about how the video wasn’t going to be “good enough” to post, because as a visual artist/video editor i like when things have a ~storyline~. I really care about the “why?” even if it’s a quick IG video. otherwise it’s hard for it to not feel pointless to me.

to be honest, almost didn’t finish the mirror at all.
not because the project was hard, but because i couldn’t make the content around it perfect. yikes! it’s so easy to get the wind taken out of your sails when you’re supposed to be the artist, the creator, the copywriter, the manager, the… everything.

I’ve seen it happen with friends writing absolutely incredible songs, vintage sellers with great taste, painters with better skills than I’ll ever have, writers who want to be precious with their words. we feel like if we can’t show the process “right,” the work isn’t worth showing at all.

it’s wild how often artists talk themselves out of sharing, or even doing, what they love—because the documentation doesn’t match the vision :(

anyway, I’m teaching myself daily that done is better than perfect. so if you’re sitting on something you’d like to share but haven’t, here’s your permission to throw a little tantrum if you need to. but also it’s a little loving push to just share the damn thing ❤️‍🔥
