Took myself on a solo wine-tasting getaway in South Africa’s wine country & I can’t recommend it enough! I had 4 glasses of wine before breakfast… and breakfast was a cheese board big enough for 2 people.👌🏼🧀 If that’s not self-care then idk what is.

FRANSCHHOEK WINE TRAM DETAILS:

🗺️ LINES: There are 5 hop-on-hop-off train lines with winetram. Each route is designated a different color & stops at different wine estates in the area. I chose the Red line 🔴 and visited 4 wineries: Rickety Bridge, Grande Provence (great for lunch), Franschhoek Cellar, and Haute Cabrière. You won’t be able to visit all the stops on the line… just pick a few & enjoy at your own pace!

💲COST: Each line costs 330 ZAR ($18 USD) but this doesn’t include the wine tastings at each stop, which range from 60-260 ZAR ($3-$14 USD). Food is extra & many places do NOT accept cash!

🎟️ BOOKINGS: For wine tastings & cheese/charcuterie boards, no bookings are needed… but make dining reservations 24 hours in advance! Train lines apparently can book out in advance so it’s recommended to book in advance especially on weekends (but I personally didn’t have any issues buying a ticket on the spot at the train station on a Friday).

📍LOCATION: Franschhoek is located a 1.5-hour drive outside of Cape Town. The trams start & ends at either Franschhoek Terminal or Groot Drakenstein Terminal (and there are shuttles between the two).

🍷WINES: Both reds & whites are delicious in this region! Expect to try some Cab Sauv, Shiraz, Pinotage, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, and Semillon… with bubbly Cap Classique to finish! 🍾
