## Caption

After days sailing through Raja Ampat — an archipelago of hundreds of uninhabited, jungle-covered islands in West Papua — we left our wooden sailboat & boarded a dingy to visit one particular, very special island….

Unlike the other little islands nearby (most of which no human has ever set foot on), this one had a small rickety wooden dock built by the locals — the only sign that we weren’t the only people around for hundreds of miles.

Only a few steps later, we were off the wooden dock and back into the wild, climbing up black lava rocks and through thick trees to reach the top of the hill, and then back down again on the other side.

Finally we came across a small, dark blue lake, hidden amongst the jungle on all sides. (It makes me wonder how anyone discovered this lake in the first place. 🤔)

At first only a few jellyfish greeted us when we hopped into the water — but then the sun started shining through the trees, luring thousands of stingless, translucent orange jellyfish out from the depths, densely filling the water everywhere we looked.

It was mesmerizing.

They’d dance and circle around us, bopping into us completely unbothered in their predator-free lake (hence why they’ve evolved to not need stingers). Some were as big as my head, and some as teeny-tiny as a golf ball. They were cute beyond words and so achingly beautiful to observe. 🥹

Being surrounded by such intelligent & alien-like creatures felt like being transported to another planet. I wanted to create a dreamy photo that captured this feeling of dancing & floating in space amongst all these little orange aliens. 🪐👽 

It was one of my favorite moments from this recent Raja trip and my favorite photos to come out of it. :)
