I wrote this in the Siem Reap airport waiting to board my flight home.

Cambodia is a paradox — it’s tough to describe & it impacted me in ways I didn’t expect.

Though often seen as a brief stop for Southeast Asia backpackers, Cambodia is far more than that.

It’s a land where time bends, where the past is woven into the present, like roots through stone.

Ancient cities of architectural wonders, once adorned with precious gems & the favor of gods, now reclaimed by the earth.

Children playing barefoot in the mud, free from the weight of the world yet carrying the wisdom of their ancestors — farmers & fishermen attuned to nature’s rhythms in ways the West has long forgotten.

Women in markets smiling over flames & fermented fish, but behind their gaze & contagious laughter are stories of darkness — eyes that have known unspeakable suffering, yet never let go of hope.

Monks who possess nothing, yet are abundant in peace, compassionate toward the least of these, overflowing with generosity.

It’s a country that has endured decades of conflict & a history of bloodshed that still weaves itself through the present day — a land still scattered with mines & explosives, a people still visibly scarred & maimed by the consequences of war.

But what you’ll feel as you explore Cambodia is quite the opposite — peace, kindness, color, hospitality, and a quiet unshakable joy.

At the start of my journey through Cambodia with comaya.community, I set an intention to connect with the Four Elements: EARTH 🌿 weaving through ancient temples as a humbling reminder of our humanity. WATER 💧 flowing through villages as a source of life for generations to come. FIRE 🔥 burning in the souls of the resilient people, as bright as the flames on which they cook… a reflection of the SPIRIT 🙏🏼 of Cambodia itself — scorched by devastation, yet always rising from the ashes, refusing to be extinguished.

I hope this video allows you to connect with this land & its people. If you enjoyed it, please give it a share & comment which element resonated with you most. 🤗🇰🇭
