I feel like this proverb captures the spirit of Cambodia — a people and a land that has gone through so much hardship, yet continues to evolve & adapt to life’s continuous flow.

To encounter people with so much warmth and openness, despite such a dark and troubled history, was deeply moving… people who welcomed me with smiles and open arms, despite the role my own government played in their suffering only decades ago.

But the Khmer Spirit seems to be an endless well of resilience, color, strength, softness, kindness, generosity, and humility. From the cities, to the villages, to the jungles, to the monasteries, to the markets, to the forest… Always more to give.

I loved this country, and I loved how connected I felt to myself, nature, God, and the people of Cambodia during the week I spent here. There was an energy that *simplifies* & brings intention to the moments of life we often miss — we call it “mindfulness” in the West but in Cambodia, I’d hear them refer to it as “a noticing.”

And in that noticing, when the worries of tomorrow & the regret of yesterday fade away… you realize how abundant life is — how much overflow you still have to offer, how much space you still have to receive.

No matter how much you experience, give, or learn, there is always more to come… always more to give… and always the potential for evolution.

May you always take notice, and may your ocean never be full.💧

This trip was hosted by comaya.community which is founded on these principles of mindfulness or “a noticing” — they’ll be hosting some beautiful retreats in India next year that you’re invited to, which will similarly center around connection to self/others/nature, and service to the local community. ❤️
