Let’s talk stats! ⬇️

🤓 We all know practice is important, but one way to improve your game efficiently is to keep your stats as you play so you know exactly what to work on. A quick intro to this is to write down what club you’re using, how far you have to the pin, and the result of the shot. Repeat. 

📈 Your “strokes gained” stat is based off the average number of shots players take to complete a hole from any given spot on the course. A quick search online can give you various tour and amateur averages. 👍🏼

📝 My game off the tee, particularly with my driver, used to be my biggest deficit….by a lot. We’re talking losing over 4 strokes per round. Now it’s one of the strongest parts of my game and gaining me over 1 shot on the field every round.

🚨However, I’ve been missing greens with my irons or simply not hitting it close enough to score. My short game has been solid so I’m saving shots around the green, but my stats tell me that I’m not taking advantage of my FIRs. I’m losing just over 1 shot on my approaches.

🛠️ How do I fix this? I take note of where my miss is, and then I look at my setup and alignment before making any swing changes. My tendency is to line up to the right, and once I make the necessary correction everything from eye line, club path, shoulder plane, to attack angle all get back on track. 

It was a bit of a colorful day today, but tomorrow is another chance to go low at Sewailo! 💪🏼
